KinGuru — Privacy Policy

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

• Account information: your name and email address provided through Google Authentication when you sign in.
• Gameplay data: trivia answers, predictions, points, Krowns balance and transactions, game history, badges, and tier progression.
• Check-in data: venue location and event attendance verified through the stadium check-in feature.
• Approximate location: when you tap the "Near you" filter we request your device's approximate location to surface nearby live games. This is processed ephemerally in your browser and is not stored on our servers.
• Redemption and fulfillment data: when you redeem Krowns for a gift card or physical good, we collect your selection (such as country for a jersey) plus any information you provide to us by email to complete fulfillment, including your full legal name, shipping address (for physical goods), phone number (optional, for delivery coordination), and size preference.
• Push notification subscription: if you opt in to web push notifications we store the subscription endpoint and authentication keys generated by your browser to deliver notifications about prediction results, badges, and game updates.
• Device and browser data: IP address, browser type, operating system, and device identifiers for security and analytics.

KinGuru itself is free to use and does not collect payment information from you. Krowns are a virtual in-app currency with no cash value (see Section 5).

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Operate and deliver the KinGuru game experience.
• Track points, badges, tiers, and leaderboard standings.
• Verify stadium check-ins for in-venue prize eligibility.
• Share data with game sponsors as described in Section 4.
• Improve and analyze platform performance.
• Communicate with you about prizes, game results, and platform updates.

3. Google Authentication

KinGuru uses Google Authentication exclusively for account creation and login. We receive your name and email address from Google as part of this process. We do not receive or store your Google password. Your use of Google Authentication is also subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

4. Data Sharing with Sponsors

This is an important section. Please read it carefully.

KinGuru games and prizes are sponsored by third-party brands, sports teams, and commercial partners. When you participate in a sponsored game or redeem a sponsored prize, the following data may be shared with that sponsor:

• For all sponsored game participants: your name and email address as provided through Google Authentication.
• For sponsored stadium check-ins: your check-in data including the event attended.
• For sponsored prize winners or redeemers (in addition to the items above): your full legal name, shipping address (for physical goods), phone number (if provided), and any prize-fulfillment details necessary to deliver the prize.

The sponsor of each game or prize is identified to you in one of two places before you participate or redeem: (a) on the prize itself within the Redeem Store, or (b) within the game interface where the sponsored game appears. By participating in a sponsored game or redeeming a sponsored prize, you explicitly consent to the data sharing described above.

Sponsors use this data for prize fulfillment, fan engagement, marketing communications, and promotional purposes. Each sponsor operates under their own privacy policy. We are not responsible for how sponsors handle your data after it has been shared with them.

If you do not wish your data to be shared with a sponsor, do not participate in sponsored games and do not redeem sponsored prizes.

5. Krowns and the Redeem Store

Krowns are a virtual in-app currency you earn by playing KinGuru. Important characteristics of Krowns:

• Krowns have no cash value and are not exchangeable for fiat currency, cryptocurrency, or any other form of money.
• Krowns are non-transferable between users.
• Krowns are earned by answering trivia questions, making predictions, earning badges, and other gameplay activities.
• Krowns can be redeemed inside KinGuru for digital rewards (such as avatars), gift cards, and limited-quantity physical goods.

Geographic limitations on prize fulfillment:

• Gift cards offered in the Redeem Store (including Amazon and Walmart) are purchased for and valid only at U.S. retailers and locations. They may not be usable outside the United States.
• Physical goods (such as World Cup jerseys) are shipped only to addresses within the United States. We do not ship physical goods internationally.

Redemption fulfillment flow:

• When you redeem Krowns for a gift card or physical good, the app generates a unique redemption code and presents you with an email template addressed to hello@brightmatter.studio.
• You must email us within 48 hours of redemption with the code and any requested fulfillment information (such as size and shipping address for physical goods, or confirmation of the email address to which a gift card should be sent).
• If you do not email us within 48 hours, the redemption is forfeited and the Krowns are not refunded.
• Redemption records, including the code, item, redemption metadata, and any subsequent email correspondence, are retained as described in Section 9.

Where a prize is sponsored, the sponsor is identified to you on the prize itself in the Redeem Store before you confirm redemption, and your fulfillment information will be shared with that sponsor as described in Section 4.

6. Predictions and Skill-Based Competition

KinGuru's Predictions feature lets you forecast outcomes of live sporting events using virtual Krowns. Some predictions allow you to "stake" a number of Krowns with a posted multiplier; if your prediction is correct, your Krowns balance increases by the staked amount times the multiplier.

These mechanics are designed as a skill-based competition in which you apply your knowledge of football and sports. They are not gambling and do not involve any wager of real money:

• Predictions stakes use only virtual Krowns, which have no cash value (see Section 5).
• You cannot deposit money to earn Krowns and you cannot withdraw Krowns as money.
• Outcomes are determined by the real-world result of the underlying sporting event, not by chance.

7. Stadium Check-In Data

When you use the stadium check-in feature, we collect and process your device location to verify your physical presence at the event venue. This data is:

• Collected only at the moment you initiate a check-in — not continuously tracked.
• Used to verify in-venue prize eligibility.
• Shared with the sponsor of the game associated with that event as described in Section 4.
• Retained as part of your game history for leaderboard and badge purposes.

Separately, when you tap the "Near you" filter in the Trivia tab, we briefly request your device's approximate location to surface nearby live games. This location is processed in your browser and is not stored on our servers.

8. Email Communications for Fulfillment

When you redeem a gift card or physical prize, you correspond with us by email at hello@brightmatter.studio to provide fulfillment details and receive your reward. By emailing us:

• You consent to the information you send in those emails (including full legal name, shipping address, phone number, gift card delivery email, and size preference) being processed and stored by us for the purpose of completing your redemption.
• We retain the email thread and the information it contains as part of our redemption record (see Section 9).
• Where the prize is sponsored, the relevant fulfillment data is shared with the sponsor as described in Section 4.

9. Data We Do Not Sell

We do not sell your personal data to third parties for advertising purposes. Data shared with sponsors is limited to participants in specific sponsored games or redeemers of specific sponsored prizes.

10. International Users and GDPR

KinGuru is available internationally. If you are located in the European Union or European Economic Area, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) including the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data.

Our legal basis for processing your data is:

• Contractual necessity: to deliver the KinGuru game experience you signed up for and to fulfill redemptions you have initiated.
• Consent: for sharing your data with game and prize sponsors, which you provide by participating in sponsored games or redeeming sponsored prizes.
• Legitimate interest: to improve the platform and ensure fair gameplay.

11. Data Retention

We retain your account and gameplay data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us. We will process deletion requests within 30 days. Note that data already shared with sponsors prior to your deletion request cannot be recalled.

Redemption records (including the redemption code, the item redeemed, any selection metadata such as country, and the email thread used for fulfillment) are retained for up to seven (7) years to satisfy tax, accounting, fraud-prevention, and audit obligations. After seven years, redemption records may be anonymized or deleted.

12. Push Notifications

If you opt in to push notifications, your browser generates a unique subscription endpoint and authentication keys, which we store on our servers to deliver web push messages about prediction results, badges, redemption confirmations, and other in-app events.

You can opt out of push notifications at any time by disabling them in your browser settings or in the KinGuru app permissions on your device. When you opt out, the subscription is invalidated and we stop sending notifications to that browser or device.

13. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data. No transmission over the internet is fully secure. Use the service at your own risk.

14. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate KinGuru:

• Google Authentication: account login and identity verification.
• Clerk: user session management and authentication flows.
• Supabase: database and backend infrastructure for storing gameplay, account, and redemption data.
• Vercel: web hosting and edge functions that serve kinguru.app.
• Anthropic: AI-powered trivia question generation.
• ESPN public data feeds and football-data.org: source of live sports data, match metadata, and team standings. We do not transmit any personal data about you to these sports data providers.

Each third party operates under its own privacy policy and data handling practices.

15. Cookies

We use essential cookies to maintain your login session and game state. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

16. Children's Privacy

KinGuru is open to all ages. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 without parental consent. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account without consent, contact us for deletion.

17. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy at any time. We will notify users of material changes by updating the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of KinGuru after changes constitutes acceptance.
